CCPP Replaces Coal-Fired Plant in Bouchain

Breakbulk Online - News Story

GE and French utility Electricite de France will build a 510-megawatt natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in northern France.

The new plant will be built at Bouchain, an existing EDF coal-fired power plant, located approximately 150 kilometers southeast of the port town of Calais.

GE will install its new FlexEfficiency 50 turbines, the first to be connected to France’s national grid, according to a GE statement. The plant is expected to achieve greater than 61 percent efficiency at base load. Its operating flexibility will enable the plant to respond quickly to fluctuations in grid demand, and allow for future integration of renewable power sources such as wind and solar.

The turbines will be built at GE’s plant in Belfort, France. The new Bouchain plant is scheduled to begin generating power in late 2015.
