Nurminen Transports Former Minesweeper

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Weather slows icy transport in Finland.

Nurminen Logistics transported a 206.5-ton former minesweeper from Tampere to the Port of Pori in Finland.

Although the distance from Tampere to Pori is only 124 kilometers, it took the transporting team a 28 hours to reach its destination port. Nurminen used a 680-horsepower turbine-drive four axle truck with a Goldhofer 10-axle modular trailer.

Severe weather slowed the trailer carrying its oversized cargo, measuring 44 meters long, 6.6 meters wide and 8.2 meters high, according to a statement from the Finnish company.

The boat is now known as Guardboat 55. It was originally used as a minesweeper for the navy, but since 2005 it has served as a cruiseboat on Lake Näsijärvi in Tampere. This summer Guardboat 55 will cruise at sea, based out of Helsinki.
