Breakbulk Tonnage Soars at Tacoma

Year-to-date November volumes at Washington’s Port of Tacoma reached 16 million tons, a 6 percent increase, according to a port statement.

Breakbulk tonnage rose 71 percent to 134,959 tons compared with 78,850 tons the previous year, driven by agricultural, industrial and construction machinery exports.

Log exports increased 69 percent to reach 556,231 tons.

Auto imports tallied 143,500 units, a rise of 36 percent. By volume, auto tonnage reached 230,414 tons, an increase of 43 percent.

Total vessel calls dropped slightly from 923 to 916 in year-to-date results, a decrease of 0.8 percent.
