Vattenfall has sent three obsolete steam generators from its 3,650-megawatt Ringhals nuclear power plant to a recycling facility in Sweden.
The three generators were transported by ship from the port of Videbergshamn on Sweden's west coast to the Studsvik recycling facility at Nyköping on the country's east coast. Each steam generator measured 20 meters long and weighed 300 tonnes.
The Swedish office of Finland’s Havator Transport Oy handled the road transport from the power plant to the port. The generators were discharged at Studsvik's deep harbor.
The steam generators at Ringhals’ unit 4 were replaced with new units last summer, adding an additional 200 megawatts to the facility, according to a report from World Nuclear News.
